Purity Ring‘s Megan James and Corin Roddick may no longer live in the Edmonton area, but their families still do. Which means CHRISTMAS VISITS from the synth-pop duo.

As luck would have it, the pair are also performing … NOT as Purity Ring, but as separate entities. James is taking part in a fundraiser for photographer and musician Landon Speers on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Wunderbar. Roddick will play a DJ set at a semi-secret gig on Friday, Jan. 3.

Speers, an Edmonton expat who lives in New York, had about $5,000 of camera equipment pinched at a party. His friends, including James, Jessica Jalbert, Jom Comyn, Doug Hoyer, Diamond Mind, Renny Wilson and Ghost Cousin will each play four-song sets during Thursday’s fundraiser. (A few surprises are also promised.) Doors at 8 p.m. Admission is $15. All proceeds will be donated to Speers.

You can also purchase some of his prints via his website. And here’s his gorgeous collection of photos from one of Purity Ring’s U.S. tours.)

“It’s meant so much having my hometown behind me and I’m so thankful I was fortunate enough to meet & befriend a lot of you,” Speers writes in a Facebook post. “Edmonton’s a very special place and I’ve always felt there aren’t many places like it as far as the music community goes. I don’t visit as often as I’d like but want to thank all of you for coming to the rescue. The support and vibes have been overwhelming in the best possible way.”

UPDATE: According to Frena, $2,000 was collected for Speers during Thursday’s fundraiser.
